I bought a piñata to fill with toys and candy for my little sister’s birthday. I put it down on the floor in the living room when I got home. Kelso was very surprised. He jumped when he saw it. And when he realized it wasn’t moving, he gave it a good sniffing-over. I guess it’s not every day a rainbow bull pays Kelso a visit. :)

Kelso is not supposed to be on the bed, but he gets up there when no one is watching. I can’t blame him. It’s certainly more comfy than the floor. He likes my boyfriend’s pillow :). My boyfriend is less amused.

Kelso has outgrown his old crate. He can still stand up and turn around inside, but he certainly can’t stretch out. So I bought him a new one. I didn’t get to try it out with him before I bought it, and now I can see how much bigger it actually is. It’s really tall too. I wonder if there is a brand of wire crate with a lower top . . . in any case, I’m sure Kelso will appreciate the extra room. If he does decide to recreate it as a multifunctional space, I’ll just buy a divider pannel.
Before . . .

and after. . . .

When I bought Kelso he came with a registration form to submit to the American Kennel Club (AKC). I just recently complete the application process. Although Kelso has merling, there was no option for this on the form so I marked his coat color as what his base color is: black and tan. His registration name is “Kattery’z Kelso Dunes.” The first part, “Kattery’z,” indicates the kennel he is from and the second part, “Kelso Dunes,” names him for a field of eolian sand deposits in Mojave National Preserve.

I researched dirt (soil) in terms of dog health and this is what I found. Apparently, if a dog purposefully eats dirt it can be a sign of mineral deficiency in the diet. As for negative side effects, the main concern is the dog accidentally ingesting a piece of bark or other hard item. Lucky for me, Kelso wants to play with dirt not eat it.

I’m growing Hawaiian Baby Woodrose from seed. I have the containers on the windowsill and shelf in the kitchen. I found out a few days ago that Kelso can reach them. I came home to a big mess of dirt on the living room carpet :(. Needless to say I won’t make that mistake again. The remaining seedlings are safe. This did, however, get me thinking and know I’m wondering if potting soil or seeds could be harmful to a dog’s health. I will have to look it up . . . and be more careful where I place things.

This is Autumn, the cocker spaniel mix. She looks very sweet resting on the chair by the Christmas tree.

Heidi the standard poodle and Kelso the cocker spaniel each got a big rawhide for Christmas.

Maybe too big for Kelso?
